A $400.00 disappointment March 6, 2010 Karen A. Gebhardt I have had this vacuum all of three hours and am packing it up to take it back. I bought it primarily because I thought it would do a decent job on pet hair, which is the bane of my vacuuming existence. The salesman assured me it had the power of the larger Dysons. I had some reservations as I could see that most of the parts were plastic which I could foresee might easily break. Still, I bought it. It started out with what I thought was decent suction and I managed to vacuum almost all of my living room before I noticed the small canister was at the max line so went to empty it. I put the canister back on, started it up again and went into the kitchen. I have ceramic tile and to my dismay it left crumbs and particulates almost intact. Then I noticed it would not pick up pet hair/lint on the carpet. I believe it is jammed somehow. Add to that the roller does not always turn when you press the button. Sometimes it does, mostly it does not. I should have known better to buy this as when the salesman tried to demonstrate the floor model the roller would not spin either. I wanted to like this vacuum. It is very maneuverable and extremely lightweight. I could carry it upstairs easily. The small head fit into places that my old vacuum would not. It would have been extremely convenient. Alas, this does not perform as well as I would expect a $60. vacuum to perform. I am almost afraid to take a chance on the larger "Animal" version.
Truly amazing little vacuum! February 22, 2010 techiegirl (new york, ny usa) I used to dread vacuuming, mostly because I'd have to drag out the old monstrous Dirt Devil Breeze. It was heavy and it only sucked up what i thought it would. When the DDB died, my husband and I figured it would be worthwhile to invest in a good vacuum cleaner - we wanted to turn a new leaf (clean regularly) and get something easy to use and is effective. The DC24 completely impressed and amazed me. It picked up the white dust in between the cracks of our wood floor that our cheap Ikea carpet had left before we threw it out a month earlier. The parts are super easy to clean (2 reusable filters, bristles removable for cleaning), it's so light, looks great, and sucks up even fine powder. so, so worth it. I use it twice a week, only because I want to see what it would pick up that I couldn't see with my bare eyes.
Good Vacuum with annoyances February 14, 2010 Ralph 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
First of all, this is a much more reliable and well made vacuum, in comparison to the cheapo Dirt Devils, Eurekas, Bissells, and Hoovers of the world. What makes you shake your head, is that a few simple refinements could have made this machine a real winner.
Apparently, the vacuum manufacturing companies conspire to make their products fall short of customers complete satisfaction in one aspect or another, insuring that each customer will search their whole lives for the PERFECT vacuum... and therefore purchase at least one or more from EACH company during their existence on this earth, guaranteeing that every company will remain in business forever. One brand has bad motors, another has noise-busting loudness, another has cheap parts, another has useless attachments, etc. etc.
The weaknesses of this machine are:
1) Power cord is far too short. 20 foot cord should be extended to at least 25 feet.
2) The red on/off switch is surprisingly poorly designed. Because it is recessed in a vertical cavity on the front of the machine, you must "think ahead" before pressing it for both on or off. Anything other that a completely vertical point of your index finger towards the floor, results in a sticking feel, that results in a NO RESULT.. and a more carefully thought out "RE-PRESS" will be required to turn the machine on or off. If you are right-handed, you must reach around to the front left of the stick, and try your luck. Lefties may fare better. When the phone rings, you can't just flip it right off.
3)The red foot pedal (to disengage the handle from the vertical position) is also very balky, and often requires a second or third press of your toe to begin the vacuuming "festival of fun".
The actual vacuuming is good for the MAIN COURSE. But this Dyson will especially appeal to those who enjoy an appetizer of un-plugging & re-plugging, with repetetive finger and toe pressing for dessert. Perhaps the Olympics should add "marathon vacuuming" to their menu of events!!
Pardon me while I go out to try to diagnose the "electric starter" of my snowblower, which has malfunctioned, after spending $200 to repair the choke/carbuerator assembly. Of couse, the warranty has expired, as usual. Snow tomorrow night!!

It's OK February 14, 2010 J. Foster (New York, NY) I heard a lot of good things about Dyson and there were lots of good reviews here and other sites so I took a shot. I've been using a Rainbow for the last 15 years and so far nothing beats that, except the price. I like the Dyson in that it is light and agile and easy to operate. What does not impress me is the suction. The DC24 is not very powerful at all, requiring several passes over carpet.
It's makes vacuuming feel like a game! February 12, 2010 S. Rodillon I LOVE this vacuum. It's super-small (much smaller than my previous Eureka Optima) but still super-powerful.
It works just like they say in the commercial. As all Dysons, there's definitely a learning curve when it comes to figuring out how to remove and attach its various parts, but it's easier to use than previous larger models.
Yes, the canister is small and fills up quickly; however, if the reason I have to keep emptying the canister is because of how much dirt it's able to suck up so effectively and efficiently, then so be it.
