Product Description The Dyson DC14 vacuum offers strong suction, durable construction, and the best innovative solutions to common vacuuming situations. Dyson's 'Root Cyclone' maintains powerful constant suction. It's suction is channelled right to the edges of the cleaner head, unlike many uprights. Its specially-designed whiskers, angled to reach down between the skirting board and the floor, flick the dust from the edge into the airflow. For copacetic cleaning, Dyson's offers the best. The pre-motor filter removes particles down to 0.1 micron and is washable / The post-motor electrostatic filter traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor. This filter never needs replacing. The intake nozzles of the DC14 tools direct high velocity airflow down into the carpet pile. This has two main advantages - *You pick up more because the directional force of the air agitates and dislodges dust*The airflow is continuous even when vacuuming curtains or upholstery preventing them from becoming stuck to the cleaner Lifetime HEPA filter - Air expelled from a Dyson has up to 150 times less bacteria and mold than the air you breathe. Clear bin - There are no bags to buy / You can always tell when it's full / It is easy to empty Height - 44.86 Width - 14 Depth - 13.38 Weight 18.56 lbs Motor wattage - 12 amps. The power of a vacuum cleaner is best measured in airwatts (suction power). Motor wattage simply tells you how much electricity a cleaner uses. Bin capacity 0.71 gal Cord length 35.4ft Maximum reach 52.4ft Manufacturer's 5 year warranty

good for tile....old dirt devil worked better on carpet!! March 9, 2010 J. Yates (Jacksonville, FL) Bought this because I got a great price on it and I FINALLY got my husband to agree. Our 3 year old dirt devil was crooked, had a broken wheel and had seen better days. At around a little over two hundred I thought I had done great and was excited to use it after reading all the reviews. I have two kids and 3 inside cats that can make quite a mess.
Got it home followed the instructiions and put it together. Thought i heard the angels sing! First I used it on the carpet. You could tell the canister wasn't nearly as full as the Dirt Devil's canister when I use that. Just ok. Ran the old Dirt Devil after and it picked up 10 times more dirt than the Dyson!! Also makes a horrible noise if you barely bump it, which sounds like a stupid complaint but I thought something might be wrong with it. Then I ran it on the tile. Wow! Worked great for an upright vac on the tile. Didn't push things away like most. Hair and lint actually came rolling towards the Dyson from like a foot away only on the hard floors. Best hard floor vac I've ever seen. HOWEVER its supposed to be for all floors.
I thought something might be wrong. I called DYson customer support. Which pleasantly surprised after a 5 minute wait I got an english speaking man! Wow, awesome customer service, how often does that happen? He said maybe someting is wrong with it, Dirt Devil should not out perform. Bring it back.
Brought it back, put next one together. Same problems! Dirt Devil out sucked bigtime!! Returned it and went with another brand. I;m not believing the hype. 12 amps is 12 amps!!!
If you just need it for hard floors this is great. If you are buying this for carpet, buy something else. I gave it 2 stars for the hard floor performance and the customer service. Do some research, you can do better.
Love it! March 8, 2010 C. Gore (Ohio) We have this model vaccuum at work (a small office). When we first got it, I was also the cleaning lady and decided to test it out. I used our old vaccuum first and then the Dyson. To my surprise, it picked up a lot that the other vaccuum left behind. I liked this vaccuum so much that I had my husband buy me the teal one for our home. Besides, Kim & Aggie always have a Dyson on How Clean Is Your House? I like that the drum opens at the bottom (my old one pulled out, and everything overflowed from the top onto my just-vaccuumed floor). I like the different attachments. I use the flat one to get all those pesky dustmites off the bed. I only wish that it was a little lighter when carrying it upstairs. Of course, if my husband's around, I just have him do it for me! :)
So far so good, ratcheting noise is fixed March 7, 2010 saavik (NJ) This is my first review but I felt compelled to write to help others who might experience the ratcheting noise.
I don't know how many vacuums I've owned over the last 30 years but I've had almost every brand...Kirby (still have it, about 30 years old but too heavy), Hoover, Bissell, Kenmore, Dirt Devil...you name it, I probably had it. We do not have any pets and the kids are 17 and up. Not big dirt generators anymore. We vacuum every two weeks and occasionally in-between if necessary.
I bought the Dyson DC-14 3 days ago at a Kohl's that has a no questions return policy (mainly because I had a 30% off deal and the few negative reviews made me more cautious). Normally, I buy everything from Amazon. Anyway, set up was extremely easy and it worked great on our large area rug. Moved to the small, low pile area rug and immediately the vacuum complained with what we called a grinding noise. It also grinded on our indoor/outdoor carpeting in our laundry room (read very low pile carpet). It went away using the bare floor setting but we didn't think it sucked as well.
Before returning it, I decided to call their help line and even though I was on hold for 10 minutes, I'm very glad I did! As soon as I started talking, she knew exactly what the issue was, why it happens and how to fix it. They call it a ratcheting noise and it happens because the vacuum clamps down on the floor and causes the beater bar to hit the housing. I don't know if I explained that right but that's the basics. She walked me through a very simple procedure and the noise is gone.
We'll see how it performs long term but so far so good. The 5-year warranty was a big seller...if I can keep a vacuum for 5 years, I will be thrilled. And I was impressed with their customer service. I only chose 4 stars because a) I had to call the help line and b) I don't know how it will perform long-term.
Sooooo disappointed! February 21, 2010 Brandi Russell-Eastwood (Indiana) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am so disappointed. After hearing so many wonderful things about the Dyson, I broke down and bought a Dyson because my 1 year old has terrible asthma. Much to my dismay, it does not pick up pet hair on area rugs or persian rugs. When I put the Dyson on the "carpet" setting and vacuumed these certain areas, it made a horrible screaching sound that scared my son. When I put the it on the "hard floor" setting, there was no nose, but also no pet hair removal. Unfortunately, I will have to take it back :(
Great Customer Service Experience February 18, 2010 Claire Scully (Long Island, New York) I love Dyson. I bought this vacuum because I was tired of buying Hoover, Eureka, etc and having them break down after a year or two. I saw the five year warranty and that alone sold me on this machine. The vacuum had been working great, but until there is a problem, you never know how good a company is. Well, I had a problem with the vacuum and braced myself to call the hotline numbner. Good news, I got a real live person after a short wait. The person was knowledgeable AND cheerful. When it was determined I needed a repair, a work order was sent to an authorized service center within two minutes that was no more than a mile from my house and it will be repaired within twenty-four hours! I can't believe it. This is a stand up company. I am always buying Dyson.
