Relatively quiet and decent suction for a bagless March 8, 2010 D. Vu (Winter Park, Florida) I bought this when I was living in an apartment with roommates in the military since their cheap bagged vacuum had a full bag and I didn't feel like replacing it because of their cost. I knew that bagless vacs were relatively weak, but I didn't seek to clean to hospital standards. This DC-15 came in it's thick and heavy original box and looked relatively new, surprisingly great considering it had a bargain price at the time too. It's very lightweight and the way it leans when you turn feels very natural. It fills at a decent rate; it might get through a little less than 1000 sq ft before getting full.
I only have small quibbles with the vac. I once got a coin, I think it was a quarter, that got lodged between the carpet brush and its housing in a way that it jammed the brush. The disassembly to repair it was extremely easy. The two extension heads that sit on top of the canister get knocked off fairly easily; I probably knocked off the head with the bristles off a couple dozen times already. The lack of suction is fairly noticeable, especially when you use the hose and extensions. Definitely no where close to a shop vac's suction (1/4 of the power maybe), but those things have *loud* high HP motors on them. It picks up heavy stuff, but I highly doubt it can pick up a bowling ball.
I offered to give it to my mom when I came home, but she refused. My mom has a Kirby vacuum that is a beast (10 years old and still strong). It's self propelled, uses bags, feels like it weighs 40 lbs, and cleans far far better than the Dyson. There's 3 cats and 1 dog in the house and hair everywhere in a relatively small 4-5 BR house (I don't quite count the den which is my dad's man cave that he lives in) that's housing 6 people (almost all grown to HS/college age). She has high traffic carpeting in the house (no shag). I laughed when I saw her sweeping before vacuuming. Now I just take the Dyson and vacuum for her and I grinned when I heard it being used (by my sister, I think) for a short while I was in my room. On shag, you can easily see how it misses stuff like sesame seeds and crumbs from italian bread that have been stepped on and pushed into the carpet, but nonetheless, the canister fills up with the other stuff like sand, dirt, hair and many loose carpet fibers.
This Dyson is possibly the best bagless for a relatively clean family household on the market, barring that they don't have any new significant improvements on their other/newer models. If you hate changing bags and don't demand "super clean" and would like an agile and fairly lightweight vac for routine vacuuming, I'd recommend it.
Best Vacuum I've Ever Owned November 30, 2009 krazedant (New York) I bought this Dyson when it was on sale a while ago for $300. At that price, and knowing how expensive Dyson vacuums usually are, I decided to take a shot. I could not be happier with my purchase. This vacuum works GREAT.
This unit is remanufactured, but it looked brand new when I received it. I didn't have a single scratch or scuff mark on mine (although I might have just been lucky). My entire house is carpeted and the first time I used the Dyson, it picked up stuff I never even knew existed. It was actually pretty gross looking through the clear container to see all the hair and dust that the Dyson was picking up. The ball design also makes vacuuming my house a lot easier. You're no longer relegated to going in a straight back-and-forth line.
Cleanup was easy. Just press a button to pop the dust holder out and then empty the container in a trash bag. I would suggest not to do this inside the house though. A lot of dust can go flying all over the place. I usually empty the container in my garage or in my backyard.
Overall, I'm VERY SATISFIED with my purchase.
So far, so good. November 26, 2009 Chad Anderson (Ogden, UT) I love this vacuum. I've had it only a couple of months so far and haven't had any problems. It cleans pretty effectively and has very good suction. Doesn't appear to be very durable, but so far so good. Also I ran over an audio cable that has the big magnet things at the end and the vacuum completely wound the cord around the brush and tore the end off the cord. I worried that the vacuum was broken since the brush stopped spinning, but I cleared the cord out and it worked fine again.
We have had ours for longer than a year, and it is great! August 29, 2009 Pilchard (Connecticut) We tend to purchase high ticket refurbished items such as this when they go on sale. Over the years, we tried various inexpensive vacuum cleaners. From Hoover to Sears ... just about all have failed within a year and been overall a disappointment. The good thing the less expensive units had going for them is they were cheap. The bad thing is they didn't work well and usually within a year they died.
The Dyson has lasted longer than any of the inexpensive models, and shows no signs of being ready to fail. If anything it works as well as when first purchased. This is a well made, and effective home cleaner.
Great vacuum July 18, 2009 mom of p-3 (rhode island) I bought this vacuum 4 months ago. So far I love it and it has great suction. I do have a hard time using the hand suction hose/tools. My dh and ds each have no problems but I always mess it up. I only paid $225 with free shipping. I think I would've paid double for the quality. I'm hoping this will last me several years. We have a dog(beagle) and he really hardly sheds but we do get a lot of dust on the hard wood floors and we have 3 kids so we have plenty of crumbs, dirt, and stuff on our floors and this takes it all. My favorite thing is using the hand wand with the brush on it and cleaning the crown molding and base boards with ease.
